Double-Face Fabric: Innovation in Versatile Cashmere

Double-Face Fabric: Innovation in Versatile Cashmere

Few fabrics offer the balance of elegance and practicality quite like double-face cashmere. At Joshua Ellis, we have perfected this specialised weave, creating a fabric that is as functional as it is luxurious. With two distinct sides, each meticulously finished, our double-face cashmere offers a reversible, seamless drape, making it an exceptional choice.

A Fabric of Two Worlds

The defining feature of double-face cashmere lies in its dual-layer construction. Using specialised looms, we weave two layers of cashmere together, each with a carefully selected contrasting or complementary colour. Unlike conventional fabrics, where the reverse side is unfinished, both faces of our double-face fabric are perfected, allowing seamless reversibility and superior drape.

This highly complex process requires exceptional skill and precision. Every metre of fabric must align flawlessly, ensuring that the two layers integrate smoothly while maintaining the soft, fluid characteristics that define Joshua Ellis cashmere.

Unmatched Versatility and Design Potential

One of the key advantages of double-face cashmere is its versatility. The ability to feature two different colours or textures in a single fabric allows for reversible garments, offering two looks in one. This not only enhances creative possibilities but also eliminates the need for additional linings, reducing bulk while preserving the luxurious softness of pure cashmere.

The lightweight drape of the fabric makes it an excellent choice for unstructured outerwear, and tailored pieces. Double-face cashmere offers the perfect balance of structure, movement, and warmth, making it a favourite among designers and luxury brands.

Finest Raw Materials, Expertly Finished

As with all Joshua Ellis fabrics, our double-face cashmere begins with the finest raw fibres, carefully sourced for their exceptional softness, durability, and rich hand feel. Once woven, the fabric undergoes an extensive series of finishing processes to refine its texture and enhance its natural qualities.

These processes include:

1.      Milling, to develop the fabric’s plush softness

2.      Brushing, to enhance the natural loft and depth

3.      Steaming and pressing, to create a smooth, refined surface

4.      The result is a fabric that is as durable as it is luxurious - designed to maintain its beauty and performance over time.

Sustainable Cashmere: SFA Certified

At Joshua Ellis, we are committed to responsible sourcing, ensuring that our cashmere meets the highest environmental and ethical standards. We are proud to be Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA) certified, an accreditation that guarantees our cashmere is sourced with respect for both the environment and the communities that produce it. The SFA promotes sustainable herding practices, biodiversity conservation, and improved welfare for cashmere goats, ensuring that the production of our fabrics supports the long-term health of ecosystems and local livelihoods. This certification reflects our dedication to producing luxury fabrics with a conscience, offering our customers a product that is as sustainable as it is exceptional.

A Mark of Excellence

Every piece of Joshua Ellis double-face cashmere reflects a legacy of craftsmanship that has been perfected over generations. From its intricate weave to its seamless double-sided finish, this fabric offers unmatched design possibilities while upholding the highest standards of quality.

For brands and designers seeking a fabric that blends tradition with innovation, double-face cashmere provides a timeless solution. Its ability to offer two distinct aesthetics within a single cloth makes it an essential choice for those who demand both elegance and functionality in luxury fashion.
